Bai Ling in Philly

I recently had the distinct pleasure of directing the incomparable Chinese-American actress and international icon, Bai Ling, in Philly. While many know her from her legendary, high-energy career, our session at the Wayne Hotel became a masterclass in how a strategic "Stills + Motion" approach can redefine a celebrity narrative. We spent the afternoon at the sophisticated Rosalie Italian restaurant, creating a visual story that bridges the gap between international fame and Philadelphia’s elegant design scene.

This session was a fascinating exercise in chemistry. I am, by nature, a reserved and observational director—I prefer to let the atmosphere speak and capture the narrative as it unfolds. Bai, on the other hand, is a force of nature—an extrovert with electric energy who lives for the lens. Our afternoon began with that high-output momentum I love, but while I was focused on the technical "visual arc" of our day, Bai was fully immersed in the experience, documenting our journey through the city on her own phone.

When we arrived at Rosalie, the energy was high. While the main dining area was bustling, my intuition told me we needed a more curated, intimate space. I made the strategic call to move us into the private backroom, where the deep crimson interiors provided the exact cinematic weight the session required. It was there that I pulled my cinematography rig—complete with an external 4K/8K monitor—out of my bag. Bai was instantly impressed, noting, "You can make movies with that!" That is exactly the point of my "Stills on the Fly" workflow; it allows me to bridge the gap between high-fashion editorial stills and the raw, unscripted motion that modern brands crave.

As an introvert, my strength lies in the ability to step back and see the details that others might miss. While Bai explored the space with her signature extravagance, I was able to hand-pick the moments that felt most powerful and sophisticated—translating a global icon’s energy into a polished, professional visual identity. I offer this same standard of visual direction to brands and individuals who need their story told with precision.

I am currently booking Fashion Catalogs, Editorial Campaigns, and "Stills + Motion" sessions for Spring 2026. Let’s discuss how we can direct your next narrative.

A quick moment of calm with the icon herself after a high-energy session.
